Overall, how would you describe your experience at Winston Taylor?
A very warm and welcoming culture coupled with an insightful scheme that inspired and motivated me to apply for further opportunities with the firm.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Participated in a legal insight programme featuring partner-led discussions, graduate recruitment sessions, trainee shadowing, networking workshops, and practice area speed networking. I developed my commercial awareness, gained insight into responsible business and pro bono work, and connected with legal professionals across multiple practice areas. During the trainee shadowing, I examined a trust litigation matter within the Private Wealth practice, gaining exposure to trust law disputes and the legal considerations involved in contentious private wealth matters.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Trainee shadowing gave a direct opportunity to receive feedback and have intellectual conversations in a relaxed environment. Collaboration with peers throughout the day where everyone was respected and listened to was another example of this.

The role gave a true insight into the firm and the opportunities available at our current academic level of progression. Perhaps the scheme could have been multiple days to allow for further immersion and hands on experience.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Skill development was somewhat limited due to the nature and type of scheme this was. However, commericial awareness development was explicitly explained and I learnt a lot of technical information from the trainee shadowing.

A particular thing I noticed was the personable and friendly approach the recruitment team took when emailing me. I initially had difficulties with the original date of the scheme, but they were very accomodating and tailored each "generic" email specific to my timings and availability which was different to everyone else's.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Whilst everyone spoke about the warm and welcoming culture, I truly felt the collaborative nature and sense of community within the firm. I feel that this is one of the distinct aspects to the firm and certainly facilitates the firm's great success.
