Business Placement Student Review

I was at first not doing very much in the role I was given because my manager was very busy and to help him I needed a lot of contextual knowledge which I couldnt learn in time. I was mainly crosschecking records and sending emails for information. I was also doing finances for the project. I began looking for other things to do and helped organise events for social value commitments and started shadowing another PM. This was much better: I led meetings, handled finances for that team, and learnt how to be an Agile PM.

It increased through the year. I felt more trusted in the new role I found and delivering the social value stuff I was very much left to my own devices.

I have been given the opportunity to complete different courses for project management so I can be certified, and when I started in the new PM role, the person I was shadowing gave me a complete overview and theoretical understanding before I was integrated into the team which helped me feel very prepared.

It was good from other people. My Director was good and helped me a lot and the new PM was very very supportive and I could rely on them. My first line manager was just very busy so I would sometimes not get a response for a day or two and I didnt feel like they explained things very well. I also had a buddy who was technical, I met her once on the first day but havent seen her since.

I had a very good, inclusive cohort. I really enjoyed coming into the office because people were extremely helpful and fun to work with! The company had many social events you could sign up for which were really fun - I have just finished the football tournemant CGI arranges for its offices and it was amazing!

I have really enjoyed it. It was very rocky at the start and I felt very out of depth. It felt to me like I wasn't really needed and they just had to have an early career there. As time went on and I met new people and started doing other things I really enjoyed working there.
