Trainee Merchandiser Review

I work collaboratively across the buying, merchandising, and design teams to ensure product is in the right place, at the right time, at the right price. No two days are the same, which keeps the role exciting. Monday is our busiest day for Trainee Merchandisers as we review sales performance and update reports from the previous trading week. The rest of the week involves analysing sales, tracking stock, forecasting, placing orders, and working closely with the buying and design teams. It’s a great mix of numbers, creativity, and teamwork.

I was given real responsibility from day one and was trusted to have responsibility over tasks that had a genuine impact on the business. As the year went on, I took on more responsibility and progressed, while still having plenty of support from the team whenever I needed it. It was a great balance of independence and guidance.

I've massively improved my Excel skills and become much more confident communicating in a professional environment. I've also developed my analytical skills, time management, and problem solving. These are all skills that will be hugely beneficial in my final year at university and throughout my future career.

The support throughout my placement was great, both within my team and across the wider department. I was made to feel really welcome from day one, and everyone was always happy to help whenever I had questions. It was a really supportive environment where it felt okay to make mistakes, learn from them, and keep developing, which helped me grow so much in confidence throughout the year.

Primark has a really positive and welcoming culture, which makes it such a nice place to work. Things like EPIC Week (Every Person Impacts Culture) reflects how much the company values its people, and you can feel that day to day.

I really enjoyed my placement year. Relocating to Dublin was an amazing experience, and I learned so many new skills along the way. It really helped me develop professionally and gave me my first real insight merchandising, which I really enjoyed and found really interesting.
