Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am an opening support for the Opening Leads in my team. This mainly involves my daily tasks: setting hotel users up on systems and running our shared inbox. Weekly tasks: Responding to requests from those in the business to update ownerships on the systems, running and constructing a Weekly Overview Report of our hotel openings to be sent across to senior leaders. Monthly: Owner Welcome Letters, Expenses. And on more of an Ad-Hoc Basis: Opening Announcements (my favourite role, on a when hotels open basis), creating PowerPoint decks, Hotel website Imagery, Distro lists, and organising various Team Meetings.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

A fair amount - my team put confidence in me that I could do task independently (once I have received training, of course), without chasing me.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Enough - whereby my team felt confident to let me independently work on tasks but I could always reach my team if I needed any additional support and guidance, whether in person, on Teams (respond in no time) or on our Weekly Huddles and Team Meetings they always included me and asked if I have anything to report.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Incredible! The culture of Hilton is like no other. With the Team Member Resource Groups (TMRGs), Mosaic Groups, all the events and celebrations and team member appreciation. I have always said it is a company that nurtures more than just your day job, it is a school for teaching and nurtures your career growth, soft skills and development. There is always a networking event and ways to get involved, including Cross-Exposure in Hotels and other departments, and leaders always being welcoming to accommodate 'Coffee Chats' and discuss their career journeys. I have volunteered this year, as part of the Travel With Purpose Mosaic Group. I am attending London Pride. On top of that, I have made the best friends ever. The benefits are incredible, such as the Go-Hilton and Stock Programmes.

What advice would you give to others applying to Hilton

The culture of the company is incredible. Research the culture of Hilton before applying and before Interviews and show a GENUINE interest for Hilton and the hospitality industry - Hilton is a business of 'people serving people'.
But it is truly what you make it - you need to throw yourself into all of the opportunities that are available to you (and there are tons!)
