Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Within my role I sit in the Corporate recruitment team along side 5 other recruiters. My day - to -day involved driving the full recruitment lifecycle from incision to new hire. This includes: briefing hiring managers, posting roles, screening and shortlisting candidates, arranging interviews, and managing offers and rejections. Moreover, as part of my role I am also involved in some talent acquisition projects which we have weekly meetings about and i am currently carrying out competitor analysis research for it.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I feel I was given the right amount of responsibility. It increased naturally as I grew more comfortable with the work, and I'm now leading around 10 roles on my own — which is both fulfilling and makes the work feel genuinely meaningful.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt many new hard skills, such as using a hiring platform, screening candidates, delivering feedback, and improving my Excel proficiency. Alongside these, I have also developed key soft skills — particularly organisation, communication, and assertiveness.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I think I received a lot of support and the right amount of guidance. At the beginning, we had a week dedicated to training, where the managers walked us through how the systems work and the kind of tasks we'd be taking on. In terms of ongoing support, I've always had weekly 1-1 catch-ups, and my managers consistently made sure I felt supported when assigning work and kept communication open throughout.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I absolutely loved my placement, both from a work and a social perspective. With a cohort of 50 interns, it was easy to form close friendships, and the placement had a really sociable feel. There was always someone to reach out to with a question, or if you wanted to explore another department — something I definitely found enriching. On the work side, as I mentioned, I was given a lot of different opportunities, whether that was a new project, getting involved in the 2026 planning meeting, or taking on a senior role to recruit for. There was always something exciting to get stuck into. Liaising with other departments, like helping the graduate recruitment team run assessment centres, was also really insightful and a completely new experience for me.
