Consolidations and Reporting Intern Review

In my role, I support the team with key monthly reporting activities. This includes preparing and reviewing analytical schedules, account roll-forwards, and reconciliations, as well as performing variance analysis and assisting with Balance Sheet and P&L journals.

As a Consolidation and Reporting Intern, I was given an appropriate amount of responsibility to ensure a work life balance without getting bored, whilst having continuous support available by my team if needed.
My primary region I was responsible for was Latin America.
I was also responsible for intercompany reconciliations on an affiliated global scope, ensuring transactions between entities are accurately recorded and aligned.

The new skills I have acquired over placement might seem simple but it is more the practical use of these skills which has been new to me. I have always been organised but I have been able to utilise the basics in a more practical way as due to the tight deadlines placed on the team during month end I have to organise tasks into urgency levels and ensure that I do not forget about vital corrections through checklists and splitting the work load into separate days across the Month end.
In addition, I have learned Corporate and Finance Specific Language in order to communicate efficiently across multiple stakeholders keeping a mental list of who has not responded to my initial query so I can send a follow up email within an appropriate amount of time to ensure the issue is resolved.
As my role is within accounting I have also learnt Technical accounting Knowledge and systems such as Smart View (Planning, Consol and Rates), Journal creation via Excel and Submission using the FCC website. Alongside how to conduct and appropriately comment on any analytics and reviews.
Earlier in my placement I also took part In the First Aid Course doing both the Practical and Written assessment. This is a skill that I didn't expect to acquire during my placement but I am glad I did.

Throughout my placement I was offered guidance the whole way if I needed it. I felt comfortable to ask any questions I wanted too without feeling silly or that I was inconveniencing my manager or Team. As a result of their guidance I was able to need it a lot less as the placement went on whilst knowing if I ever did need it the door would still be open.

Hilton has several groups and initiatives to make people feel safe in the working environment such as Team Member Resource Groups (TMRG's) and Mosaic Groups. These are both initiatives that drive inclusion, provide support and promote a sense of belonging within the organisation. Hilton also takes part in the Felix Project which can be helping out in a food bank distribution warehouse or helping to plant/pick crop's for societal use.

My experience at Hilton has been amazing. The working culture and opportunities the organisation have to offer are incredibly supportive of several different career paths. External to the role there are several events within the Watford Corporate Office to boost morale and instigate networking amongst colleagues.
