Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Being a Talent Acquisition Intern, I managed the recruitment of specific roles across the EMEA region. The responsibilities ranged from posting the job advertisements, to sending out communications for the candidates, and finally supporting candidates through the offer stage.
Further supporting candidates, I would also manage the general enquiries email inbox. These emails can be sent from internal or external individuals, mostly asking questions about the roles we have available or submitting applications.
I would also attend internal and external events representing Hilton, which further involves communication with potential interested candidates.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I believe I was given responsibility during the internship to manage my roles and projects. The responsibilities given are realistic and increased as the internship progresses and were based on how to best optimise my strengths. There is always an opportunity to ask for more responsibility (especially in something that I was not familiar with, which was great for building my confidence and learning), but also to ask for guidance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, most notably I have learnt communication across cultures through recruiting for different roles across the EMEA region. This means looking out for culture-specific nuances such as time zones when scheduling interviews and different eligibility criteria.
I have also learnt time management, organisation and how to make a task manageable through managing multiple roles at the same time with similar deadline dates.
Finally, I have developed my attention to detail and have been able to apply it to other projects that I have not done before the internship (such as looking at high volumes of data and making interpretations)

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I believe I was given much support during my internship. We have monthly one-to-ones to discuss work goals and personal life, as well as weekly work catch-ups. I find these particularly useful as it taught me how to articulate my current projects (and future forecasts for the projects) to others in order to allow for collaboration.
We are also given the opportunity to draft emails for our team to check and to suggest amendments. I find this useful as it allows me to see in practice how to write professional emails and communicate clearly.
