Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role focused on transforming large volumes of operational and financial data into meaningful insights that could support business decision-making. This involved working closely with productivity reporting, forecasting commentary, KPI tracking, and hotel performance analysis to help regional leaders and hotel management teams understand performance trends and opportunities for improvement.
A key part of my internship involved using advanced Excel, Power Query, and data modelling techniques to automate reporting processes and improve efficiency. I developed dynamic dashboards and reporting tools that allowed users to interact with data through slicers, KPI breakdowns, and automated commentary systems. These tools improved reporting accuracy, reduced manual workload, and enhanced the visibility of hotel operational performance.

The environment balanced professionalism with approachability. Senior colleagues and managers were approachable and willing to provide guidance, which created a strong learning environment where questions and development were encouraged. There was also a clear focus on continuous improvement, with teams regularly looking for ways to improve reporting processes, efficiency, and operational performance.
The culture strongly reflected the hospitality industry’s people-oriented values. Employee engagement and recognition were taken seriously, with social events, networking opportunities, and team activities helping to create strong relationships across the office. This made the workplace feel welcoming and helped build confidence when collaborating with different stakeholders.
Another important aspect of the culture was the fast-paced and analytical nature of the work. Teams worked closely with operational data, forecasting, and performance metrics to support decision-making, meaning there was a strong emphasis on accuracy, accountability, and problem-solving. Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Throughout the placement, I gained hands-on experience working with financial and operational data, forecasting processes, productivity reporting, and performance analysis across multiple hotels and regions. Being trusted with meaningful responsibilities helped me build confidence in my technical abilities and improved my understanding of how finance supports wider business operations within the hospitality industry.
One of the most beneficial aspects of the experience was the exposure to large-scale reporting and analytical work. I developed advanced skills in Excel, Power Query, automation, dashboard creation, and data analysis while learning how these tools are used to support commercial decision-making. I also improved my ability to communicate insights clearly and work collaboratively with stakeholders across different teams.
Beyond the technical development, the internship also strengthened my professional skills. Working in a collaborative and supportive environment helped improve my communication, problem-solving, time management, and adaptability. I learned how to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure during reporting periods, and approach challenges with a more analytical mindset.
The company culture made the experience particularly positive, as colleagues were approachable, supportive, and encouraging throughout the internship. The balance between professional responsibility and employee engagement created an environment where I felt comfortable contributing ideas, asking questions, and continuing to learn.

Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Hilton to a friend?
What advice would you give to others applying to Hilton
One of the biggest things I learned is that you do not need to know everything before starting. A large part of the internship is learning on the job, so being proactive, asking questions, and taking initiative are extremely important. The people around you are there to support your development, and showing curiosity and a positive attitude makes a strong impression.
