Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role is varied and hands-on, covering both leadership and direct care responsibilities. A typical day starts with shift planning, allocating tasks, and coordinating the team. I support residents with personal care, medication administration, meal preparation, and daily activities, while also managing complex needs such as food and fluid intake.
I regularly liaise with healthcare professionals, arrange and attend appointments, and ensure all care is delivered safely and in line with guidelines. Alongside this, I monitor medication stocks, complete bookings, and maintain accurate documentation.
My role also includes supervising colleagues, handling leave requests, and ensuring effective communication within the team. I carry out daily checks across the home, including cleanliness, finances (petty cash and client money), and compliance tasks. At the end of each shift, I provide a detailed handover to the next team.
Additionally, I support operational responsibilities such as ensuring one-to-one hours are met, conducting fire drills, and completing health and safety walkarounds. Overall, my role requires strong organisation, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards of care.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Through the programme, I have developed both new skills and strengthened my existing ones. I have improved my understanding of person-centred care, communication, and supporting individuals with complex needs. I have also gained better knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, and how to apply these in daily practice.
The programme has helped me build confidence in leadership skills such as supervising colleagues, delegating tasks, and handling challenging situations effectively. My documentation, observation, and care planning skills have also improved significantly.
Overall, the skills I have gained are directly supporting my current role and have made me more confident, organised, and effective in providing high-quality care.

Overall, the structure of the programme makes it easy to manage alongside work and supports steady progress.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has been very supportive throughout the programme. My manager was always approachable and provided consistent guidance whenever needed. I was given study leave to complete my assessments and modules, which made it easier to balance work and learning. My manager also shared valuable practical experience that helped me understand different scenarios better. Overall, I felt well supported in all areas, which had a positive impact on my learning and development.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The training provider has been excellent throughout the programme. All the trainers were supportive, approachable, and always willing to help. They provided clear guidance, timely feedback, and were very polite and professional in their approach. Whenever I had any questions or needed support, they were always available and helpful. Overall, the level of support from the training provider made the learning experience smooth and very positive.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are opportunities to get involved in additional activities at work, including team meetings, training sessions, and occasional social interactions. These help build good relationships within the team and support professional development. The workplace encourages a positive team environment, where staff can engage with colleagues and share experiences.
