Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
within the SECP team at Hackney Council, focusing on EEDIB. My role is varied and sits at the intersection of strategy, policy, and transformation. my role involves supporting the development of key strategic frameworks coordinating programme activity across the organisation, and working with internal and external stakeholders to embed equalities into decision making. I contribute to research, data analysis, and delivery
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme. It offers a unique opportunity to work on meaningful, high-impact work while developing professionally. The exposure to senior leadership, strategic projects, and cross-council collaboration makes the experience both challenging and rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a wide range of skills, particularly in strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. I’ve strengthened my ability to analyse data, interpret complex information, and present it clearly for different audiences. I’ve also developed project and programme management skills, including planning, governance, and coordination across multiple workstreams. My confidence in communicating with senior stakeholders and contributing to organisational priorities has significantly improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well structured overall, with clear opportunities to gain exposure across different areas of the council. There is a good balance between learning and practical experience, and the rotational or project-based nature allows for a broad understanding of how the organisation operates.
There is also flexibility within the structure, which allows trainees to take ownership of their work and shape their development based on interests and strengths.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my team and manager. There is strong day to day guidance, regular check ins, and a genuine investment in my development. I am given responsibility and trust in my work, while also having access to support when needed. The environment encourages learning, asking questions, and developing confidence, which has been key to my growth.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support from the training provider has been adequate but inconsistent at times. While there are structured sessions and resources available, the level of engagement and practical support can vary.
There is room for improvement in terms of clearer guidance, more tailored support, and stronger alignment between the qualification and the realities of the role
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
At present, I don’t feel that the qualification strongly supports my day to day role. Much of the learning is theoretical and not always directly applicable to the complexity and pace of the work I’m doing within the council. There is potential for the qualification to be more impactful if it were better aligned with real world scenarios, particularly in areas such as programme management and stakeholder engagement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
