Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

3/5
I am an Apprentice HS&W Advisor for Balfour Beatty working in construction, i am site based and travel across different sites carrying out inspections, etc. I had to complete my Level 3 NVQ in occupational Health and Safety and i completed my NEBOSH. Next is my diploma.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

3/5
i don't see much of a 'programme' in place by Balfour Beatty but my line manager is consistently helping with my development and sets me targets which i aim to achieve to a high standard. yes, Balfour Beatty has an Early Careers programme, but i don't necessarily agree that it supports my development in my job role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
i came to Balfour Beatty with no construction knowledge and i think now i can soundly say that i do my job to a good standard and understand my responsibilities well. all my skills have improved, even the likes of communication, etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
as stated before there isn't much of one i dont think. but out HS&W team support us apprentices as best they can and set us targets consistently that support our development.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
my line manager is exceedingly supportive consistently, could not do it without him.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The RHG training provider who we did our NVQ with was very supportive throughout the process. For the NEBOSH, two weeks of back to back training was provided by ASTUTIS which was helpful but I was slightly confused at their methods as you are not able to contact the tutors after the training weeks are up, i.e. to ask for support in study.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
it is a requirement for the job role for a reason and having the qualifications and learning to get them has helped me perform better in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
there are conferences held throughout the year for the business units which i attend. the Early Careers programme also mandates us to attend 2x four day weeks in the lake districts with others in apprenticeships/ graduate schemes.
