Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
My role requires that of a site engineer. I am out on site daily ensuring the site crew have all the resources they need for the day - I write Permit to break grounds and hot works permits to enable works on site and do the required setting out of the works. In addition, I also as-built areas where works are completed and I record site progress through site diaries and trackers.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
Balfour Beatty have a really good 2 year early careers programme which helps build upon various skills including management and teamwork. There's a mixture of theory and practical within the programme to enable you to be the best you can be.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am always learning new skills and developing existing skills on site. If I have gaps, theres always people there to help me fill them and teach me new skills that are beneficial to me in the long run

Balfour Beatty set out a clear programme when you first start with dates and timings.

5/5
I have support from those I am surrounded by daily on site but also support from people in HR if I need it.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
I have progress reviews with my university every 3 months to check up on progress and sometimes they set up townhall meetings to ensure we have all information for any changes happening to the degree

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
There are some topics I learn at university that I can apply regularly in the workplace but there is also quite a few topics that I struggle to apply to my day to day job role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There are quite often social activities such as a weekly quiz night and there's sometimes other social activities

Yes

Why?

There's a good support system at Balfour Beatty to help you progress in your career and help you with your studies.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?

Apply for it and don't worry if you don't have much experience in the construction industry. I came straight into it after completing a-levels with no idea what to expect but now I love what I do.
