Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
My role includes administrative and IT tasks, ensuring bookings and systems are updated accurately. I handle programme changes, making sure any updates to holidays are communicated clearly to customers.
I regularly take telephone calls, providing advice, answering queries, and delivering excellent customer service. In addition, I complete banking tasks and reconciliation to ensure all transactions are processed correctly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed strong sales skills by matching customers to suitable holidays and promoting additional products such as foreign exchange. My geography knowledge has also improved, as I regularly research destinations and provide travel information tailored to customers’ needs.
In addition, I have gained a better understanding of legal and compliance requirements within the travel industry, as well as the importance of following good industry practices to ensure customer safety and satisfaction. I have also become more aware of sustainability and how it impacts travel choices, allowing me to recommend more responsible options.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
In addition, I had more in-depth reviews every 12 weeks with my apprentice coach, where my development was assessed in detail and new goals were set. As I progressed, I was given new tasks when I felt ready, which allowed me to gradually build my skills and confidence.
I also received strong support from my manager and colleagues in the workplace, who were always available to help and offer guidance. Alongside this, there were training calls readily available, giving me access to additional learning and development opportunities whenever needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
Whenever I was unsure about something, I could ask for assistance from my manager or colleagues, who were always supportive and willing to help. This helped me build confidence and develop my skills.
There was also an apprentice Teams page that all apprentices could access, which was very useful for sharing information, asking questions, and supporting each other. Overall, the support I received made my apprenticeship a positive and manageable experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
Whenever I needed help, I could contact my apprentice coach for advice and clarification, which was very useful when completing tasks. The training provider also offered structured learning resources and guidance, making it easier to understand the course content.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
It has also improved my awareness of different customer types and how to tailor my approach, which has helped me deliver better customer service and meet individual needs more effectively. In addition, I have developed stronger sales skills and gained confidence in recommending suitable holidays and additional products.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
In addition, the company recognises achievements and encourages team engagement through activities, particularly during key times such as Christmas. There are also team-based social activities, which help build relationships and create a positive working environment.
