Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
If anyone enjoys being out on the road and getting their hands dirty then Severn Trent is the best place to be!!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
The pacing is good and provides me with a fantastic work life balance.
The training providers are very friendly and will do their best to help the apprentices.
I am given plenty of time and opportunities to learn from different departments, going on the different vans to see a whole range of jobs from simple blockages to large scale cleaning of the main lines.
The course work is very relaxed aswell! It takes a long time to build up and get the course work complete but it is very straightforward and as I mentioned the training providers will give advice on how to improve.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I’m not very good with computers but with having to use them on a daily basis i have become so much better.
Severn Trent have also helped me to achieve my licences for traffic management and high pressure water jetting.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I am always receiving emails from the New Talent Team at Severn Trent checking up on me and multiple groups have been made to ensure that I feel welcomed and heard.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
Yes because I am able to learn at a steady pace that allows me to take what I have been taught to use in my job.
No because even with college I could receive the same training and course provided by Severn Trent if I was hired as a normal employee.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
Why?
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
I would say go out and talk to your community. Go to public fairs and events, go and volunteer at charities and it will help you!
