I am Head of Central Service. I am responsible for our fleet and customers nationally inclusive of all Compliance, Service, Recharges and Warranty.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I’m really enjoying my Level 5 Operations Manager course because it’s helping me connect theory with real life practice. The content feels directly relevant to my role, especially in areas like leadership, process improvement, and strategic thinking. I’ve found it rewarding to reflect on my own experiences and apply new tools and frameworks to improve how I work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Throughout the course, I’ve been able to strengthen my existing skills while also developing new ones that add real value to my role. I’ve built on my communication and leadership abilities by learning more structured approaches to managing teams and handling challenges. At the same time, I’ve gained new skills in areas such as data analysis, strategic planning, and performance management. Applying these in practice has helped me become more confident in decision making and more effective in driving improvements within my team and wider organisation.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The organisation and structure of the course have been very effective, making it easy to follow and stay engaged throughout. Each module is clearly laid out with a logical progression, which has helped me build my understanding step by step. The support provided has also been excellent, particularly from my tutor, whose knowledge and experience really stand out. He explains concepts clearly, encourages discussion, and is always willing to offer guidance, which has made a big difference to my learning experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support I have received from my employer, NRG, has been invaluable throughout the course. They have provided me with the time and encouragement needed to fully engage with my studies, while also giving me opportunities to apply what I’ve learned in a practical setting. This support has helped reinforce my development, allowing me to grow in confidence and capability within my role. Knowing that NRG is invested in my progression has been highly motivating and has contributed significantly to my overall learning experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a high level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualification, which builds on what I mentioned earlier about the strong course structure and delivery. There is clear guidance provided for each module, along with useful resources that help reinforce my learning. My tutor is very supportive and approachable, always available to answer questions and provide constructive feedback. Regular check-ins and discussions have helped keep me on track and ensured I fully understand each topic before moving forward. This consistent support has made the learning process more manageable and has played a key role in my progress and confidence throughout the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that my qualification is helping me perform significantly better in my role. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained are directly applicable to my day-to-day responsibilities, particularly in areas such as leadership, problem-solving, and improving operational efficiency. It has given me a more structured approach to managing tasks and supporting my team, as well as a better understanding of how to align my work with wider organisational goals. As a result, I feel more confident in my decisions and more capable of driving positive outcomes within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, professional networking events, particularly those run through IRTE and SOE, provide a great chance to connect with others in the industry and expand my knowledge beyond the workplace. In addition to this, a number of my colleagues and I regularly play golf, which offers a more informal way to socialise and build relationships outside of work. These activities help strengthen team connections and create a positive balance between professional development and social interaction.

I would recommend NRG Riverside to a friend because of the positive experience I have had since joining in 2018. Over that time, I have been given genuine opportunities to progress and develop within my role, which has helped me thrive both personally and professionally. The company has supported my growth through training, responsibility, and encouragement to take on new challenges. There is a strong culture of development and teamwork, and I feel valued as part of the organisation. Overall, it is a place where you can build a long-term career and continue to move forward.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nrg Riverside?
I would tell people to be open and honest throughout, this helps build trust from the start. Good communication is also key, both in how you present yourself and how you work with others, as it is an important part of the culture at NRG Riverside. Most importantly, I would say to enjoy the experience and be yourself. If you approach it with the right attitude and a willingness to get involved, it’s a great opportunity to start and develop your career.
