Project Engineer Apprentice Review

Some of my day to day tasks included getting involved with procurement of equipment, I gained more of a relationship between supplier, clients and other stakeholders. I worked on Hinkley Point C for the first two years of my apprenticeship and am now on HS2 and gained experience going out on site and surveying / scanning. I also have a apprentice training plan which involves several different tasks within different roles for me to learn. Alongside this I also do part time college which I received one day every two weeks for college release day.

I think the apprenticeship is well structured, I have a apprentice training plan that needs to be proactively up to date. This training plan involves tasks within different roles and shows a layout of what each year is going to represent. For the first year it is based on just engineering showing different tasks that need to be completed, for the second year it is based on going through different roles such as: commercial, on-site installation, site supervision, health and safety and planning. For the third year it is mainly based on management then on the fourth and final year of the apprentice is is based on my chosen role.

I always received support when asked and am regularly asked if I am enjoying myself, if I need any support with anything and am assured that support is available.

I receive good support from my training provider, I do 12 week reviews with my training provider where I can raise anything I need support with and have their contact details if support is required.

when I am taught at college I regularly can related to a lot mentioned since I am working on site and vice versa, an example can be when working with things like HVAC load calculations at work, I am taught this at college which gives me a better understanding of doing them at work.

Because I think it give a opportunity not just to be restricted to your own role but also to have available other roles which many other companies many not do, this can be beneficial, because partly you get the opportunity to go into a different role and it can also be beneficial in your own role as it will give you more of an understanding of responsibility of each person within the team. You also are able to work in the biggest projects in the UK which would look good on a CV.
