Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am currently based on a large nuclear construction project, we are contracted to install HVAC systems across the site. Everyday I go out on site to access install progress, issues and development. I attend many coordination meetings daily to structure and plan upcoming works with other contractors and clients. I also work towards gaining new experience every day based of a plan Exentec Hargreaves had created for my progression and learning since day one.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my current apprenticeship compared to previous placement works with different employers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Everyday I am learning something new and tracking my individual progress, therefore when the time comes I can work to develop my skills to be more and more competent each day.
I have learnt many management and engineering skills during my apprenticeship so far and i am continuing to develop them each day.
Also delving deeper into engineering / BIM skills that i was taught during college.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

As mentioned earlier, from the start Hargreaves encouraged me to follow a given path over 4 years time. Each sector/department e.g. engineering, quality, health and safety - i will learn the basics eventually develop competency in these departments.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

So far, i receive monthly reviews to check progress and see if i need extra support in any way possible. My line manager also reviews my apprentice plan of work to track my progress and to see if i require any assistance. They also actively push employees to complete their annual goals.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

They are also supportive when it comes to my assignments, deadlines and e-portfolio work. Whenever i have asked for help I have always received in within a timely manner!

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Many of the assignments relate to some type of on site activity, there has been many times that i have learnt a subject within my assignments and then implemented this real time onsite.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, Hargreaves often arrange extra-curricular team building events, days out and fundraisers.

Why?

In my opinion Hargreaves has one of the best apprentice programmes i have seen / heard of throughout the industry. They are very inclined to develop young minds and are always pushing people to learn and experience more each day.
