Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Attending presentations, working on design calculations, coding a programme that can automate carbon calculations and working on a bridge design competition.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a fair amount of responsibility and it meant I had to concentrate on tasks and complete them to the best of my ability. Of course there were people that would check my work.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt how to use Revit, AutoCAD, became more proficient in Excel and have learnt a lot about embodied carbon, bridge design and structural analysis.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of guidance. I had a mentor who helped me settle into the company and would always help if I needed anything. My line manager has been very helpful and has helped me do a range of tasks and projects.
