Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
Day-to-day, I lead the Talent team to deliver an effective end‑to‑end recruitment and onboarding service. This includes managing team workloads and performance, supporting stakeholders with hiring requirements, overseeing recruitment campaigns, and ensuring compliance with HR processes. I work closely with hiring managers to source, assess and appoint candidates, handle escalated recruitment issues, track KPIs, and ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new starters while continuously improving recruitment processes and team capability.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I very much enjoyed my Team Lead apprenticeship and found it to be a valuable and rewarding experience. I gained a significant amount of learning that I have been able to apply directly to my role, which has supported both my professional development and my effectiveness as a leader. Throughout the programme, I felt well supported internally, with encouragement from my manager, peers and the wider business, which made balancing work and learning achievable.
I particularly enjoyed the self‑awareness module, as it helped me better understand my leadership style, behaviours and impact on others. This has enabled me to reflect more effectively, adapt my approach, and build stronger working relationships. I also found the team motivation theories especially engaging, as they gave me practical frameworks to understand what drives individuals and teams, and how to tailor my leadership to improve engagement and performance. Overall, the programme has strengthened my confidence, capability and self‑awareness as a Team Lead, and I would highly recommend it to others

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have developed a number of new skills throughout the programme. I strengthened my project management and time management skills, enabling me to plan more effectively, prioritise workloads and manage competing deadlines. I also developed my team leadership capability, particularly through learning and applying Situational Leadership, which has helped me adapt my approach to better support and motivate different individuals. In addition, I gained a stronger understanding of team motivation theories and improved my self‑awareness, allowing me to reflect on my leadership style and have a more positive impact on my team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The programme was well organised overall, particularly due to the strong internal support provided by my company. They put effective structure in place, advocated for my learning needs, and supported me in achieving my off‑the‑job hours, which made a significant difference. While the course itself placed a strong emphasis on independent learning and felt less structured during one‑to‑one tutorials, this was well balanced by the level of guidance, flexibility and support I received internally, allowing me to stay on track and succeed.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I received an exceptional level of support from my employer throughout the programme. The Learning and Development Facilitator played a key role in my success, advocating for my individual learning needs and providing invaluable support with proofreading and guidance. As someone with dyslexia, having consistent support with written elements made a significant difference to my confidence and progress. She also offered additional training to help develop my learning beyond the course content. I genuinely believe this level of support was instrumental in helping me achieve a distinction, and I couldn’t have asked for better support.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I received a reasonable level of support from my training provider. They were responsive when issues were raised around course content and structure; however, they were less effective at proactively identifying when I was falling behind or needed additional support. At times, the course structure did not clearly align with the required knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs), and I felt there was a disconnect between the coursework and what I was expected to demonstrate. This made it more challenging to fully understand expectations at certain points of the programme.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification has had a strong positive impact on my ability to perform in my role. It has supported my professional development and enabled me to apply my learning in a practical way. I have initiated and delivered projects based on the learning from the programme, which have contributed to positive progress and improvements within the team and the wider organisation.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

2/5
There are minimal extra-curricular activities within my organisation. There are some football teams and our HR Systems team offer "lunch and learn" sessions.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PHOENIX Medical Supplies to a friend?

Yes

Why?

From a learning and development perspective, I would recommend Phoenix Medical Supplies. The Learning and Development team are a real strength of the organisation and provide excellent support through apprenticeships and short courses. This is further enhanced by the My Careers portal within the e‑learning platform, which supports colleagues in planning their development and exploring future career opportunities. The level of support, accessibility and focus on development makes Phoenix a strong choice for individuals looking to grow their skills and knowledge

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PHOENIX Medical Supplies?

I would advise anyone applying to PHOENIX Medical Supplies to take the time to research the different organisations within the wider PHOENIX UK umbrella to gain a clear understanding of the business and its structure. I would also recommend reflecting on your own personal values and considering how well they align with the values and culture of the organisation, as this can play an important role in long‑term satisfaction and success within the business.
