Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work as an Engineering Manager within a digital engineering team. My role involves leading and supporting software engineers and helping to ensure that digital products and platforms are delivered, maintained and improved effectively.
On a day-to-day basis, I work with engineers, technical leads, QA, platform engineers, product managers and other stakeholders to help plan work, manage priorities, remove blockers and support delivery. I also have people management responsibilities, including one-to-one meetings, coaching, development support and helping team members grow in their roles.
Alongside this, I contribute to planning, recruitment, stakeholder communication, risk management and continuous improvement across the engineering function. This means my role involves balancing day-to-day operational needs with longer-term goals such as team development, stability, quality and wider engineering improvement.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
It has given me the opportunity to develop my knowledge, reflect more deeply on my professional practice, and apply what I am learning to real situations in my role. I particularly value the way the programme encourages critical thinking, structured analysis and a broader understanding of leadership, management and organisational challenges.
Although balancing study with work and other responsibilities can be demanding at times, I find the program worthwhile and rewarding. Overall, I feel it is helping me grow both professionally and personally.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have both learnt new skills and developed existing ones through the programme.
It has helped me strengthen my critical thinking, academic writing, research and analysis skills, as well as my ability to apply management theory and frameworks to real workplace situations. I have also developed my communication and reflective skills by thinking more carefully about leadership, decision-making and professional practice.
In addition, I have been able to improve skills such as problem-solving, planning and strategic thinking. Overall, it has increased both my confidence and my ability to approach work in a more structured and informed way.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The modules follow a clear sequence, and there is a logical flow between the topics covered, which helps build knowledge over time. The expectations for assignments, learning outcomes and areas of study are usually clearly set out, which makes it easier to plan and manage progress alongside work commitments.
There can be times when balancing deadlines, reading and practical application feels demanding, but overall the structure provides a good framework for learning. I feel the programme is organised in a way that supports both academic development and the application of learning to professional practice.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
My employer has supported me in balancing my programme with my professional responsibilities and has recognised the value of the learning in relation to my role. I am given the opportunity to apply what I am learning in practice, and there is support through regular communication, flexibility where possible, and an interest in how the programme contributes to my development.
Balancing study and work can sometimes be challenging, but overall I feel supported in undertaking the programme and developing through it.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
The support includes clear guidance around module requirements, assignments and expectations, as well as access to tutors and learning materials. This helps me understand what is required and gives me a structure to work within as I progress through the programme.
I also value the academic support and the opportunity to ask questions or seek clarification if needed. Overall, knowing the support exists helps me stay on track and build confidence in working towards the qualification, particularly while balancing study alongside professional responsibilities.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The programme has strengthened my ability to think more strategically, analyse situations in a more structured way, and how I could apply relevant models and frameworks to workplace challenges. It has also helped me reflect more critically on my leadership approach, decision-making and communication, which has had practical value in my day-to-day role.
A key benefit is that the learning is not purely theoretical. It has helped me improve how I approach planning, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and wider management responsibilities. Overall, I feel the qualification is contributing positively to both my confidence and my effectiveness at work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

3/5
There are some opportunities to get involved in workplace activities, although these are more accessible for employees based at or near head office. As the role is mostly fully remote, opportunities for regular in-person social or extra-curricular activity are more limited for those further away. That said, in the past we have had quarterly in-person all-hands meetings, which have provided useful opportunities for networking and team interaction.

I would advise others applying to PHOENIX Medical Supplies to approach it with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a readiness to work in a professional environment where teamwork, communication and reliability are important.
It helps to be adaptable and proactive, as there can be challenges and changing priorities, as in many busy organisations. However, with the right mindset these challenges can be worked through, and they can also create good opportunities to learn, grow and achieve strong outcomes.
