Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves completing different types of audit for our clients alongside some account's preparation work. This can take place either onsite at the client or remotely from our office or my own home. I often have to lead meetings with clients and internally at work. I use a wide range of accounting software depending on what the clients systems involve. I need to assess the information the client has provided and see if it is appropriate and then complete the required testing to gain proper assurance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme. Not only am I really well supported to complete my work and study along side this, as members of the team are always available to provide support when I need it, by answering questions and talking things through. But the firm as a whole has a really nice environment to come to work in.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My skills have been able to develop a lot since starting. Particularly my time management as when dealing with clients externally you need to meet the targets that you have set out with them. My soft skills have also improved greatly since starting. Along with more practical aspects like my typing speed.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured, and any tasks that I need to complete are scheduled well in advance so that I can prepare for them.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support I receive is excellent. I feel able to ask any questions I may have and know I will get a good answer. My training mangers will often go out of their way to make sure I get the answers I need or to solve any problems I am having.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider provides a good level of support when I study towards my qualifications. The tutors in class are really informative and are available for questions when not in class. The training provider also puts on additional revision sessions when nearing exams which are really helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel it supports my role a great deal, as you can get both the theory learnt in class and then the practical aspects of applying it in my role which really consolidates my learning while equally giving me more confidence in my role as my accounting knowledge is greater so I can better answer clients questions and am more confident to deal with different situations as they come up in my role as I have dealt with the theory behind them at College already.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Work put on both summer and Christmas events which are really enjoyable and involve the whole firm. Then throughout the year there will be hub socials where you go out with just your hub to many different types of activities which is a great opportunity to get to know people you work with better. When a new group of starters join a social will also be put on to give them an opportunity to meet people at the firm.

Why?
I think it is a great environment to work in with lots of support available to help you learn and develop not just with studies but in the day to day role itself. There is a good work life balance so you can get away from the office/studying and do the things you enjoy most. Getting the study leave to go to college and corresponding revision sessions is also really helpful and helps to manage revision time for exams.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sayer Vincent?
Be clear with why you would want to work at the firm and with its clients. Focus on what your previous experience and learning can help you within the role, prior accounting knowledge is not required but other skills you have developed will be helpful.
