Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
On a day-to-day basis, I can work in various teams across Cyber, and great a great breadth of experience - from Risk & Compliance to Engineering to SOC.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

3/5
A degree apprenticeship is a massive challenge.
While I often have quite interesting work, it can be near impossible to balance both my work & university obligations due to the sheer volume of work I can have at times.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Apprenticeships are all about learning, and I have not stopped learning about so many different topics since starting!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
Severn Trent are rather organised in ensuring I am in appropriate placements, and have the right support, etc.
However, my external training provider are often not organised, leading to being told about changes last-minute.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
My manager/support network is well...supportive.
They help push me beyond my comfort zone within this apprenticeship, while also supporting wider professional development.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
Generally speaking, our training provider has lecturers/assessors who know what they are talking about, and can support greatly in the fields being taught, if there are any questions.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

4/5
The university modules I take have complemented my role, and have provided greater insight into various aspects of Cyber.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

4/5
We organise a range of social events for Cyber employees.
In addition, there are some groups within Severn Trent employees can join (e.g. Christian, LGBT).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Severn Trent are a very supportive organisation to work for, with a very friendly culture and plenty of very experienced people who will give their time to support you.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?

Be confident, be yourself, have experiences you can talk about, and arguably the most important, know the company values. If you receive an offer, congrats - having the right attitude to working, and doing the best you can to learn as much as possible, particularly in the first weeks/months, will help stand you in good stead.
