Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My role has varied; I've been fortunate enough at Severn Trent that my apprenticeship has taken me between 4 different teams, meaning that I've gotten to experience a variety of responsibilities, skills, and teams. Primarily I've been operating in the same capacity as the most junior members of each of these teams, allowing me to build up fundamental skills and knowledge and take on a good level of autonomy.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I've enjoyed the work aspect of my programme; I've had some difficulties with the training provider (an external company supporting the qualification aspect of the apprenticeship) but this is ultimately a minor blemish.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
The programme is very well detailed; some items aren't particularly clear to those on scheme, but if you ask the question there is an answer.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
My employer has supported my learning, flexibility, and wants throughout the programme. No difficulties whatsoever.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

2/5
My training provider has not been great throughout the course - there was a period in which I was left for several interim months without any contact or lead trainer. This has been fed back to the internal team who manage apprenticeships.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
There have been aspects of the content I've learned as part of my qualification that have come in handy - particularly items around employment legislation and case law - but the majority of knowledge covered has been theoretical (models and such). The issue with this content is that it's very rarely applicable in the work I conduct in-role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Plenty; I've been involved in the creation of networking events, and I'm part of an internal colleague network.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?

Yes

Why?

ST is a friendly, supportive, and fair working environment with a great culture. I have very little qualms with the experience that I've had bar some isolated decisions - but this remains a vast improvement on working quality comparative to other jobs that I've had.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?

Background reading is fundamental. If you're able to come into the interview with knowledge about the role/scheme you've applied for, and knowledge about the organisation beyond Google's AI overview, you'll be able to show that you're really passionate about the work and the organisation.
