My role involves the safe transportation of passengers from point to point, driving to company and national standards.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme whilst new is ever adapting.
Compared to the traditional non apprenticeship driver training we had a wellbeing week which helped bond with other trainees. It also allowed for downtime allowing better focus for the training that resumed after which can be very intense.
The EPA was also useful as it allowed further consolidation of rules knowledge and identified areas for development to make me better in the role.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I was able to add to my knowledge as the course also looked at the industry as a whole, to create better understanding. Whereas the non apprenticeship course is focused on the company's operations.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I was aware of where I needed to be at all times, and when challenges were presented the organisation was quick to react and adapt to ensure I reached my end goal.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Was able to complete my course with all the resources needed. If there were any challenges reasons were transparently explained and solutions agreed and delivered.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Always available, always enthusiastic to help and solve problems. There has been a great level of rapport as they are really willing to make each course better for the next cohort.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It confirmed my understanding past the company's assessment process by assessing me on a more industry wide level which gave me reassurance that my role would be transferable without a knowledge gap.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I've done parts for CIRO, but also wanting to get involved with sports with colleagues.

Yes
Why?
Was very lucky to have a relatively smooth experience during my training as a Train Driver, I have good working relationships with my manager, and Exeter College has been great. This is my second apprenticeship with them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Great Western Railway?
Be open to change and having to adapt to achieve your goals. It will be worth it!
