Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Conduct equity research and produce stock notes to update investment theses. Usually would involve going through quarterly and annual reports, earnings call, sell side research and speak with company management or sell side analysts.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Interns will pick up stocks and given full autonomy to write about them and express their genuine opinion on the company. This will then be discussed with the portfolio managers in meetings.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Basically it's a learning by doing process, and the best way to learn is to speak with portfolio managers and reach out to people within your team. There is no rigid training programme to follow, and how much you get out depends on how much you effort you put in. People are nice and willing to help.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very chill and helpful. Investment directors are willing to give you their time and answer your questions in detail or go through a model with you.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
It was a great internship in the sense that it gives an insightful glimpse into the world of equity research on the buy side. People are happy to teach and discuss with you. I just wish we have a better outline of company and team structure at the start since it's such a big organisation. Sometimes managers seem slightly evasive when asked about fund specific data and we had limited access to relevant info.
