Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In our day-to-day role I complete business administrative tasks, such as inputting and entering data and dealing with speeding and traffic related offences. When completing my apprenticeship, I had 6 hours of study per week in order to complete my business administration assignments.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed the apprenticeship programme thoroughly as I have gained confidence, learnt new skills and gained new knowledge. Each assignment was different and it enabled me to learn new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt new skills such as improving my communication skills, and this has been shown by communicating with the public to help them with their queries via phone call or email. Also, I have improved my communication skills by liaising with colleagues and other stakeholders. Moreover, I have learnt administrative tasks, in which I now have more knowledge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The apprenticeship programme is well structured and organised as every month we have apprenticeship meetings with our apprenticeship manager to discuss the content for our new assignments and we are provided with the assignment brief and any support in which we need. Also, after we complete our assignments each month, our apprenticeship manager marks them and provides us with any feedback.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

We have 6 hours study time per week for our apprenticeship to work on our assignments. Whenever I need any support with my assignments, my colleagues and supervisors are always there to help and support me with any questions I may have regarding the role.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive regular support as I have 1-to-1s with my apprenticeship manager where I am able to ask any questions if I need any help. Also, if I am needing any help with my assignments, my apprenticeship manager is always there to help and support me.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Gaining a Business Administration qualification helps in my current role as the role is heavily administration based, and I am able to further develop my skills.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are many activities to get involved in, such as football club, basketball club and many more.

Yes

Why?

Because we receive lots of support, we have regular 1-to-1 meetings with my line manager to discuss any queries and the colleagues in my department are always willing to help and are supportive.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to West Midlands Police?

The job descriptions for WMP may be overwhelming, but remember you can get lots of support in the organisation and achieve and develop your skills.
