Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as an Apprentice Solicitor entails working in various different teams throughout my apprenticeship to gain exposure in multiple areas of law. I work alongside qualified solicitors and complete the workload assigned by them, where they review and authorise prior to completion of any task.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am currently around 9 months into my apprenticeship and really enjoying it. The different areas of law are really interesting and provide me with valuable experience for the future. Finding the right balance between work, university and home life can be difficult to begin with but the support has been great.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my legal research skills, where I had limited experience of this prior to my apprenticeship. I would say my communication skills are always developing in this role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My program is very well structured, I have monthly meetings with my team supervisor and my apprenticeship supervisor to check on my wellbeing and development. After around 6 months in each team, the apprentices are moved to ensure exposure to as many areas as possible. I also have quarterly meetings with my university skills coach to check how I am finding the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel all of my supervisors are very approachable, as previously mentioned I have regular catch ups with my supervisors and I am always asked if there is anything I am worried about or anything I need support with.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Our skills coaches regularly check in with us via email and via a quarterly meeting. If I ever needed my skills coach I know I can always email or arrange a call for support. The lecturers email after each session to log what was covered in the last session and to let us know we can email them if we have any questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
As I have begun the SQE prep course, I have noticed how the procedural law topics help with my day to day role as a law degree only covers the black letter law and not the process of certain legal tasks. Whenever I cover a topic relevant to my role it usually saves me time at work as I don't need to spend as much time researching. I also feel more confident engaging in discussions with colleagues as I feel more knowledgeable and able to contribute.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are various sports teams the Sports & Social group offer, as well as a gym at work. WMP do also attend professional networking events in Birmingham.
