As a technician apprentice my role is to deal with all the engineering problems the site may face. At Wakefield, we have new technology's so you do deal with a 50/50 mix of electrical, mechanical and plc issues that we have to solve. Day to day we face brand new problems and as a team we try our best to fix them in the best way possible. So one day you could be working on a mechanical failure and the next you could be learning logic faults in plc issues.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The job is extremely rewarding as the work environment is very forgiving. At phoenix, technicians can take their time to fix issues rather than rush them. As an apprentice I feel the benefits from that work environment as technicians can show me the work that they are doing at a good pace and I too can work on equipment and feel no pressure at all from production. This apprenticeship has allowed myself to gain a deeper understanding at how the modern world is moving and how I can help shape it. For example, I have been designing and making parts for the mechanical systems we use on site to help aid the machines or make them more efficient. Comparing to other spaces i have worked in i do truly feel my potential is being used here

As I was previously an engineer at a glass works when I was 16 I had some knowledge about engineering. I came to phoenix with no idea on how modern warehousing and distribution services work. So this role has given me a complete understanding on how it all works. Being a technician in this field also allows me to learn a whole range of topics which I will list now:
-Pneumatics and hydraulics

This program is very well structured. For myself its college every Monday and semesters last every two months with a break in the summer.
