Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In this role, I supported a range of administrative, customer service, logistical, and meeting facilitation responsibilities. I worked closely with people with lived experience of dementia, supporting their involvement with us, and also engaged members of the public to be involved in research opportunities.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The apprenticeship gave me a really valuable learning experience alongside my day-to-day role. I really benefited from the strong support I received from the apprenticeship provider, and especially my organisation. I found the apprenticeship interesting, although some areas felt less relevant to the third sector/to my role, even though efforts were made to adapt them. I really appreciated having dedicated time to focus on my learning and gain a qualification.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed both new and existing skills during the apprenticeship. I've become more confident and learned how to flourish in a new workplace and role. I've improved my ability to work with a range of stakeholders and communicate information more clearly. I've also strengthened my organisation and coordination skills, and feel more able to manage competing priorities while supporting others and different areas of work.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I found the programme to be well organised, with a clear structure that made it easy to follow. I received a delivery plan and the content was delivered in a sequence that made sense and helped build my understanding over time. I was given good time to prepare my end point assessment and the assessment process was arranged flexibly, allowing me to balance it with my responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Throughout my apprenticeship, I've felt well supported by Alzheimer's Society. I was able to connect with other apprentices through a network which helped both learning and peer support. I also had access to mentoring alongside amazing supportive colleagues and managers.
My manager took a really proactive approach in understanding the apprenticeship and worked with me to make sure I had the right opportunities and support to meet my goals.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Support was provided through a combination of 121 meetings, group sessions, virtual calls and emails. This range of support was helpful, although there were delays in responses and some inconsistency in attendance at meetings leaving me with occasional gaps in communication and clarity.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel the qualification has supported my development. While my previous work experience has at times meant I've been able to carry out my role effectively, the apprenticeship has helped strengthen my confidence and build on that foundation. It has been an extremely positive addition that has supported my progression and confidence in my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My organisation provides a range of networking channels, offering support across areas such as early careers and mental wellbeing. I've also had the opportunity to take part in several team away days, which have been enjoyable and helped strengthen connections with colleagues.

Why?
I would recommend my organisation because I genuinely love and enjoy working here. There is a strong culture of support, positive wellbeing and great working relationships across teams which makes it a really enjoyable place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Alzheimer's Society?
My advice would be to believe in yourself and don't be afraid to sell yourself. Take time with your application and put real effort into it as it's definitely worth it.
