Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role overall involved administrative, logistical, and meeting facilitation activities, working closely with people with lived experience of dementia to support them to get involved with us and have their voices heard. It provided me with the opportunity to build my skills both within and beyond the apprenticeship scope.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the apprenticeship a lot. I felt well supported by my apprenticeship trainer, my colleagues, support networks at Alzheimer's Society, and other apprenticeships. The content was engaging and I was able to apply my learning in my daily work. I liked the balance of day-to-day job activities and quiet time for learning.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Firstly my confidence in my abilities and my ability to assert myself have increased massively. I gained new skills in a whole host of abilities such as public speaking, something I struggled with a lot previously, as well as time-management, understanding of finance, communication, project planning, problem solving, and more.

I found the programme well-structured and clear. It felt well-paced and the content came in a logical order.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer provided excellent support including an apprentice network to socialise and work together with other apprentices, a mentoring scheme, and kind and supportive colleagues and management.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I received a lot of support in both 1-2-1 and group settings. I felt able to contact my apprenticeship trainer at any time with any questions or concerns. I was also provided with career planning support that went above and beyond.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that it provided me with hands-on practical skills and helped me significantly to obtain a permanent job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a variety of lived-experience and other networks such as one for apprentices, and opportunities to socialise and network with colleagues beyond the scope of my day-to-day work.

Why?
I have always been impressed with Alzheimer's Society generally as an employer. They have been excellent to me in supporting my development and providing me with opportunities. I would absolutely recommend this organisation to others. I feel respected, supported, and able to be myself at work. My work is fulfilling.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Alzheimer's Society?
Be yourself and draw on your experience, whether that’s personal, professional, or volunteering. Remember that your skills are transferrable. And finally, empathy, compassion, and teamwork are super important.
