Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The majority of my work is on audits in the charity sector, I work with an audit team to verify the financial information that goes into charities' annual accounts. Alongside this I am given tuition to study to become a chartered accountant.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The company is very supportive and great to work for, I didn't come from an accountancy background and have learnt a lot. The workload can sometimes be higher than ideal but this is mostly well managed and work life balance is very well respected for the industry.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I did not come from an accounting background, all the skills I use day to day were new to me when I started. I regularly get periods of tuition where I study for exams on new topic areas including accounting, assurance, tax and financial management.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is set up well including both internal training and external tuition. The work that is given out reflects the stage of training, with responsibilities gradually increasing over 3 years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The environment in the office is very supportive and there are staff dedicated to running the training programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We are provided with a tuition provider who is very useful, the tutors are helpful very responsive to questions. Study is well organised to prepare you for exams, however, managing time and sometimes taking leave around exams is up to the trainee.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The accounting and assurance study provided has been essential for my ability to do the role. Much of it is highly relevant to my day to day work. Other areas such as financial management are less relevant but still very useful knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a social committee that organises some events, such as Christmas and summer parties. There is a running club, board games society, and monthly supper club.

The environment is very supportive and work life balance is well respected. I appreciate working for a company with an ethical purpose whilst building towards a professional qualification.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sayer Vincent?
Wanted to work with third sector (charity) clients and having a good attitude to the learning process is much more important than a background in finance/accounting.
