Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my day to day role I work on a singular team with the HR department, I have gained some valuable skills however I do believe that I am not getting the right exposure to every aspect of HR and believe my skills are lacking as a HR professional that is 5 months into their course.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Similar to before, I believe that because of the size of the HR team, my opportunites have lacked to experience the wider function. I also believe that 5 months in there hasnt been a clear plan for the apprentices that are here. However, the courses and modules I am completing continue to be interesting and beneficial to my development.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a range of new skills in HR and definitely developed skills i previously had such as communication, teamwork, confidence and organisation to name a few. I do have the ambition to continue building on these skills and more wider HR skills as my journey continues.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme itself from the training provider is structured and set, the modules are really beneficial and support me in reaching the development I need to be a HR professional. The programme in the workplace doesn't have an exact plan and I have just been placed in a singular team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I do recieve support when needed however, I do wish I could have more support regarding the development of more HR matters.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My tutor from my training provider has been the best part of my apprenticeship, she has supported me in various times of doubt or confusion and really supported me in doing my best in the modules and on any assignments that have been submitted. My tutor has really helped me staying on track when I have felt like I have been lacking at my workplace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The modules that are provided from the trainer relate to HR matters really well and with a lot of them I have been able to transfer my new skills from the module learning to my daily role, however again, I wish to have experience in a different area of HR so that I am able to transfer more skills and use what we have learnt more widely.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Would you recommend Sandwell Council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Sandwell Council for an apprenticeship in a different area as I do believe that they offer good training for the apprentices, however for an apprenticeship in HR I would not recommend due to the sheer size of the HR team and how it is difficult to build a range of knowledge in all areas of HR compared to a smaller HR business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandwell Council?
Enure that your values align with the councils, Sandwell is very passionate on providing a good service and the attmepts at doing so are clear. There are many people employed at Sandwell Council that have been here for a long time, so the knowledge and passion are very prominant, you can use this to feel confident that you will be supported in your job role surrounded by professionals.
