I am enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I am learning lots of new things.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills and have also been developing skills I already have such as data management, adaptability, professional communication, initiative, IT skills and timekeeping.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have been in regularly contact will my college assessor and have allocated a day every week which I complete my coursework so I get enough time to complete all my work on time. I then have a lot of time I can dedicate to learn new skills and knowledge to grow professionally.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My colleagues and manager always are there to help me with anything I am struggling with, and any queries I have they are ready to answer them. They create a positive work environment which has contributed in the growth in confidence.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have been in regularly contact will my college assessor and have allocated a day every week which I complete my coursework so I get enough time to complete all my work on time. When I meet with my assessor we go through the course content and she regularly asks me if I understand the content and if I don't, she is happy to go through and explain it again.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The course content helps me gain a better understanding of the organisation I work for. As I work for the public sector I have been given lots of assignments and training on customer service, I have learnt how to deal with the different types of customer interactions and the importance in supporting the residents of Sandwell the best we can.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been to a few networking events, I like that the Council sees the importance of networking amongst colleagues of other department, the external organisations as well as their colleagues.

The Sandwell Council staff are really welcoming and supportive which is really important in building your confidence as a young apprentice. There are career opportunities which aids you in growing your career and don't feel stuck in one job role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandwell Council?
When applying to Sandwell Council it is really important you show off the experience you have and how you can best apply it to the role you have applied for. Make sure you create a positive first impression by proof reading your job application making sure there aren't grammatical and spelling mistakes.
