Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Creating payment certificates and liabilities monthly, reviewing EV and explaining gains or losses. Signing requisitions for plant/tools. Raising compensations events and site instructions .
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The learning and university side of the programme is good, modules can be very interesting and I have had no issue with assignments. I enjoy that it is online as it saves having to travel long distances but we can still see each other 3 times a year and connect when we do travel up to university.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Not really, I have learnt more about what is involved in construction but no development of new skills I didn't already have.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The university side is very organised and structured but my employer does nothing to link stuff back to what I am learning so I feel a bit all over the place. The work I do is not very structured and there's no time for learning or teaching.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Very isolating place to work with little support. Had the feeling of just being cheap labour rather than helping and teaching me as an apprentice to excel at the job. I pick things up quickly and in previous roles have never had an issue with not feeling like I am doing a good job but working here has been very negative and I am not being treated as an apprentice, which normally is a good thing but this time it is definitely not.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Anytime you need help they will answer just maybe a bit slower than needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
So far I haven't used anything I have learnt for work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are a few things but very catered towards boys so if you are not into football you wont be able to, also I hear around the office things going on but have never been invited.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
No
Why?
It is the first job I have joined where I dread going in the office. I have been there nearly 10 months and still speak to few people which is an issue I have not had before, I am a shy person but warm up quickly but feel as if I had no welcome into this job at all and the development is not there, it just is constantly bringing each other down and feels like no one is good enough for the managers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
