Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am responsible for the commercial control of subcontracted works from procurement through to final account. On a day‑to‑day basis this involves tendering and appointing subcontractors, managing subcontract budgets, assessing and certifying monthly payments, valuing work on site, and pricing and agreeing variations. The role also includes administering subcontract agreements, maintaining accurate cost forecasts, resolving commercial queries with the site team, and negotiating final accounts to ensure costs are controlled, contractual obligations are met, and the project achieves its required margin.

I have learnt many new skills such as strong commercial awareness alongside practical construction knowledge. This includes skills in cost measurement and valuation, subcontract procurement and tender analysis, assessing and certifying payments, managing variations, and assisting with cost reporting and forecasting. I have also have gained experience in reading drawings, understanding contracts, communicating effectively with site teams and subcontractors, and maintaining accurate commercial records, building the confidence and judgement needed to take greater ownership of packages and financial outcomes.
