Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a commercial apprentice, I am involved with Subcontractor commercial relationships, Project meetings, Invoicing, Purchase Orders and Daily Progress Reports.
I take a good look into the CVR and cost forecasting, which is a challenging, but very enjoyable part of Quantity Surveying which I am doing.
I am also involved in commercially leading my own package which is the mobilisation of new compounds across the projects route.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it allows me to gain a degree qualification whilst working. This is really suited to me as I learn well whilst being on the job. This partners well together with my online apprenticeship course once a week. I enjoy the convenience of working online completing the degree, but the social aspect of it is diminished slightly as the face to face interaction is sacrificed.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely used and developed my time management skills. This is because as I've gotten increasingly busier at work, you have to manage your time very effectively in order to get all tasks and work done in good quality and great time.
As well as this, I would say that I have improved my communications skills in a different way. This is because I have had to step out and speak to people around topics I am new to. However, I am a very curious person who is not afraid to ask these questions as I like to learn the what and whys of different things, in this case, work and how the project runs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very simple and structured. The same day, every week, is my Uni online day. This has been embedded into work and the team are aware, so it is very simple to work around my limited availability on this day. Some weeks during marking period (post assignment submission), I am available all 5 days of the working week too.
The programme has been explained to me and I have been given a clear path of what i achieve and roughly the date of the end of programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Balfour Beatty really help me with me apprenticeship programme as they allow me great time to complete my assignment work where necessary. This is very helpful as it takes a lot of pressure off me and makes my work much improved.
As well as this, my team in specific, are very helpful with helping me manage my time and offer a great amount of work balance. this is important as I like to be busy as this is where I find myself learning the most. Although, they ensure this isn't an overload around the time of assignment submission in order to help me balance my time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider as they offer regular progress meetings with my Employer (line manager and myself).
As well as this, if I ever require help, they are prepared to take some time to sit and give me assistance where possible.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I would say that the day to day running of the job helps me understand the reality of the role and the project, and how it is really put into practice.
However, I would also agree that the qualification helps me too as I am able to understand different parts of the project and also learn the logistics and the legal side too, as well as development of different roles and how they have changed over time.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work, there are opportunities for social events every few months, whether this be football, or Go-Karting, there are many opportunities to get involved with. They are open to everyone on the project and are very accessible and suitable for all. These are consistently and regularly offered.

When employees come first, the impact feels really personal and really makes you feel involved. I think that the incentive to work is increased by the fact of it been such a great place to work.
