An L&D Business Partner (L&DBP) in food manufacturing works closely with operations and functional leaders to ensure the workforce has the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to deliver safe, compliant, efficient, and high‑quality food products. The role blends strategic workforce development with hands-on, operational learning in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment.
Unlike traditional L&D roles, this position requires strong commercial awareness, credibility on the factory floor, and deep understanding of compliance, safety, and production realities.

I really enjoyed the programme—it gave me a stronger strategic perspective and highlighted the importance of engagement, helping me see where I can make a real impact through learning initiatives

Through my Level 5 L&D Consultancy Apprenticeship, I’ve developed stronger engagement skills, learned the value of slowing down to fully understand business needs, and improved how I structure work through tools such as project charters. This has enabled me to deliver more focused, purposeful learning initiatives with clearer impact.

The programme was well organised, with clear structure and sessions that were fully utilised. At times, I found it challenging to fully understand the EPA expectations; however, this reflected the autonomous nature of a Level 5 qualification, where greater responsibility and ownership sits with the learner.

I receive a good level of support from my employer, particularly through strong peer support, which has been valuable for sharing experiences, insights and best practice throughout the programme
