I am a client-side Quantity Surveyor within a degree apprenticeship, supporting the procurement of construction projects. My role includes managing tender processes, reviewing returns, producing comparison reports, and assisting with contract documentation.
On a day-to-day basis, I liaise with contractors, consultants, and clients to ensure the procurement process runs smoothly and projects progress efficiently.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme to a great extent. It provides a good balance between academic learning and practical experience, allowing me to apply what I learn directly to my day-to-day role. This has helped strengthen my understanding of the industry and build confidence in my work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed a range of both new and existing skills. In particular, I have strengthened my commercial awareness, attention to detail, and communication skills through managing tender processes and producing reports. I have also improved my ability to analyse problems and present clear, practical solutions, while gaining confidence in working with clients, contractors, and consultants.

I receive a good level of support from my employer, with regular guidance and the chance to get involved in projects that help me build my experience and confidence. If I have any questions about something in the workplace or university, my employer is always available to help

It helps to a good extent, as I’m able to apply what I learn directly to my role. It’s improved my understanding of key concepts and made me more confident in the work I’m doing day to day.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. We play football or badminton on Wednesdays, go out for lunch together on Fridays, and often play pool or darts during breaks. There are also opportunities to attend professional training and networking events.

Why?
Yes, I would recommend AGS to a friend. It’s a supportive environment with good opportunities to develop, and a positive team culture. I've already gotten to speak and work with clients directly, which is an opportunity that most other places would not be able to offer. I've been able to gain lots of exposure and experience so far.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AG Surveying?
Make sure to show interest in Quantity surveying and the industry as a whole. Ask lots of questions.
