Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work for AG Surveying as an apprentice quantity surveyor undertaking tendering and live QS work for our main contractor clients. I attend university at Anglia Ruskin University where I am completing my quantity surveying degree and RICS chartership.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme as I work hands-on with clients, subcontractors and colleagues working on main contractor tenders and live projects. I attend university at Anglia Ruskin University where I am completing my quantity surveying degree and RICS chartership
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have gained a much better understanding of the construction industry and quantity surveying profession, and from this I have developed existing skills and learnt new skills. Including working closely with clients and maintaining these relationships. I have gained skills in pricing construction projects and managing the financial side of projects.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured, as I attend university once a week and have regular reviews with my workplace line manager and university tutor to keep track of progress and set goals. In my workplace workshops are put in place to train us more.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive monthly one-to-one meetings with my line manager to review progress and set targets for the next month. Similarly, 6 monthly reviews to go into more depth of these reviews.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support and am able to work on different elements of the QS role. I am assisted with my university work and progress from line managers and training workshops are held to improve our skills and knowledge.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I attend university once a week where I learn more of the theory side of the profession which allows me to apply this to my day-to-day role. This initial theory assists with the initial understanding with the profession and how to apply different skills to the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We often have team building events within my workplace that is good for improving working together as a team.

Would you recommend AG Surveying to a friend?

Why?
They are very supportive and can offer good experience to new apprentices and give a good level of responsibility. This assists in progressing your skillset and experience in a fast paced environment. They also assist with progressing your university course as they help with reviewing assignments and coursework and supporting where required.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AG Surveying?
It doesn't matter what your skill and knowledge level is as they will teach you along the way and bring you up to speed on the role of a QS and its position in the construction industry. They give you a lot of responsibility which allows you to improve and gain experience rapidly.
