Spring Insight Participant Review

During the Spring Week we had presentations from different business areas, did related group challenges and took part in a couple of AmplifyMe simulations. We also had time to network, which gave me a better feel for J.P. Morgan’s main business areas and how people there actually see their work and workplace.

It was a really good experience because it gave me a clear picture of what the different roles involve and what J.P. Morgan actually does day to day. Through the challenges we didn’t just listen to people explain their jobs, we worked on tasks ourselves and could see how the work looks in practice, which I found amazing.

The week showed me which skills really matter in these roles. The main thing I took away was how to put something presentable together in a short amount of time and then stand up and present it, even if my knowledge of the topic wasn’t extensive or complete. I already had presentation experience, but this was a completely different setting and more challenging than I expected, and it gave me useful practice in presenting under time pressure and answering questions.

People were honestly really friendly and happy to help, and they were open to any questions we had. As a student, a place like J.P. Morgan can seem quite intimidating, but the atmosphere felt much more relaxed and approachable than I expected. It also really felt like people enjoy their jobs, and that came across in the conversations I had, so overall the culture and atmosphere left a very good impression on me.

I really enjoyed the insight. I was already very interested in J.P. Morgan before the Spring Week, but being there for the week made me even more keen on the firm. I found all the areas we were introduced to genuinely interesting, especially Asset Management and Wealth Management, which stood out to me. Overall, it felt like a very valuable experience and left a really positive impression on me.

From my own experience and from what we heard during the Spring Week, I don’t think technical skills are the main focus at this point. I got the impression it matters more that you’re honestly interested in their business, willing to learn and have something in your life you’re genuinely passionate about that you can talk about and link to your interests.
