Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a wide range of new skills since starting. When I first began, I had little to no experience working in a professional environment, so the progress I’ve made has been significant. I’ve improved my presentation and public speaking skills and feel much more confident sharing ideas in front of others. I’ve also gained experience supporting important meetings, including taking minutes and helping ensure everything runs smoothly. In addition, I’ve developed strong technical skills, particularly managing live webinars on Microsoft Teams where I’ve had to handle responsibilities in real time. Overall, I’ve grown in confidence and am now much more capable of making decisions independently and taking initiative in a professional setting.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
If I’m being honest, the programme wasn’t very well structured at the beginning. For the first few months, I was mainly supporting different projects, but there wasn’t a clear outline of what skills I should be developing at each stage of the apprenticeship. The apprenticeship side felt similar, especially early on, as there wasn’t much guidance or direction. However, as time went on, the structure improved, and there was more clarity around expectations and development.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. They are always available to help when needed, provide guidance, and ensure I feel confident in the work I’m doing. I’m given opportunities to ask questions, develop my skills, and take on new challenges, which has really helped me grow throughout my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
If I’m being honest, I don’t feel there is a strong correlation between my qualification and my day-to-day role. While some of the knowledge is useful in a general sense, much of what I’ve learned hasn’t directly linked to the tasks I carry out at work. I’ve found that most of my development has come from hands-on experience in my role rather than the qualification itself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
I would say there are some opportunities available, but not as many that I’m directly involved in due to being an apprentice. However, there are great networks within the organisation, and I’ve also taken the initiative to find and attend other networking events myself, which has been really beneficial for my development.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Greater Manchester Combined Authority to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to a friend. Overall, it’s a supportive organisation with a good working environment, and there are strong opportunities to develop skills and gain experience. From my perspective, I’ve gained a lot through hands-on work and support from my team. While there were some areas that could have been more structured, especially at the beginning, the experience has still been valuable and positive overall.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greater Manchester Combined Authority?
I would advise others applying to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to be proactive and take initiative from the start. Make the most of every opportunity, even if things aren’t always clearly structured, and don’t be afraid to ask questions or get involved in different projects. It’s also really important to build connections and network, both within the organisation and externally, as this can open up a lot of opportunities. Lastly, be open to learning on the job, as a lot of your development will come from hands-on experience rather than just formal training.
