Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I currently work as a content designer within a UCD team, supporting both ticketed work and BAU content changes. This involves reviewing and updating content to ensure it aligns with relevant guidelines and meets user and business requirements as clearly as possible. We work in an agile way, with daily stand-ups to share progress, regular stakeholder sessions for feedback and peer reviews, following a structured content design process throughout.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I’m glad I chose the degree apprenticeship route, as it’s given me valuable hands-on exposure to a range of areas I’m interested in exploring. Balancing university alongside full-time work and personal commitments can be challenging at times, but that is to be expected. I’ve appreciated the flexibility to try different roles across both technical and non-technical areas, which has helped me better understand where my interests lie.
As a consultancy, role availability can depend heavily on timing, networking and even luck, which I found challenging at the start of my apprenticeship. I hadn’t fully realised how difficult it could be to secure roles specifically tailored for apprentices and as a result, my experience didn’t always align with what I initially expected. Apprentice roles are often influenced by client needs and incentives, which can limit options at times. That said, it’s encouraging to see that they are now starting to provide more structured support in place for newer cohorts however, this can be improved.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
The university degree covers modules that are relevant to the workplace, which helps put theory knowledge into practice. Accenture is also very supportive of learning and gaining certifications with plenty of materials available so can encourage independent learning whenever you find the time. However, a significant amount of learning comes from project roles themselves and as mentioned earlier, securing roles can sometimes be difficult. When this happens, it can limit opportunities to develop the practical skills that would typically be gained through hands-on project experience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The initial onboarding experience was very supportive, with an organised induction, bootcamp and the opportunity to be paired with apprentice buddies from the year above, which helped ease the transition early on. However, a more structured approach later on could help reduce the time, discouragement, and disappointment that can come from struggling to secure roles, or only being placed in roles that aren’t technical or aligned with individual interests. For example, having roles pre‑assigned or a rotation‑based programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We have career councellors/people leads that help us to shape our career and understand what we're doing well at and what we need to work on. we also have buddy as mentioned but ll apprentices have been very welcoming. a lot of managers cna understand apprenticeships or willing to understand apprenticeships so can be very accommodating and supportive
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Really good support through regular coach calls and opportunities to provide feedback. These check‑ins help monitor progress, clarify targets and goals and identify areas for improvement, which makes it easier to stay on track and continue developing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The degree programme definitely covers areas that are relevant to the workplace. However, at times some topics can feel repetitive or less useful, where there could have been opportunities to explore new areas instead. I also feel that the ordering of modules has occasionally been a disadvantage, as some assignments require knowledge of topics that are only covered in more detail in later terms.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in 'side of desk' work especially as it is strongly encouraged. This can include a range of internal and external opportunities like events, volunteering, and community initiatives. There are also regular cultural and awareness activities throughout the year, including celebrations for occasions like IWD, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Eid, Diwali and Holi etc. - definitely helps to make it a nice community and environment to work in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think it’s a great place for someone early in their career to get their foot in the door, with plenty of perks and opportunities available. There are lots of welcoming people to meet, along with interesting projects and experiences that can be exciting to work on. It’s particularly well suited to those who want to explore different areas, gain exposure and better understand their interests, as well as the types of roles and teams they’d like to work with in the future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
I would recommend being clear that this is a consultancy and understanding how it operates internally, particularly around how roles are staffed and how role searching works. Taking the time to understand what Accenture looks for, especially in line with current industry trends, can really help. Enjoy the process and be proactive, reach out to current apprentices for tips or advice throughout your process.
