Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I also value the exposure to enterprise tools and processes, as well as the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, which has accelerated my learning and understanding of how large-scale technology projects are delivered. While the workload can be demanding at times due to balancing work and study, I see this as a positive challenge that is helping me grow and build discipline. Overall, I find the programme both engaging and highly beneficial for my long-term career development.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
On the technical side, I’ve strengthened my understanding of Agile delivery processes, including defect management, sprint workflows, and release validation. I’ve gained hands-on experience using tools such as JIRA for tracking issues, as well as Microsoft 365 applications for documentation and reporting. I’ve also developed skills in root cause analysis, system validation against acceptance criteria, and quality assurance practices within live project environments.
In addition, I’ve expanded my knowledge in software engineering concepts through my studies, alongside growing awareness of areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity fundamentals, and data-driven technologies.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
On the workplace side, my responsibilities are structured through Agile delivery frameworks, with defined sprint cycles, clear roles, and regular ceremonies such as stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. This provides consistency and clarity in terms of expectations, priorities, and delivery timelines.
There is also strong coordination between my employer and university provider, which helps ensure my learning is relevant to my day-to-day role. Overall, the programme is well structured and supports continuous development in a clear and manageable way.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
On a practical level, I have access to experienced colleagues and mentors who help me understand project processes, technical tools, and best practices within Agile delivery. I regularly receive feedback on my work, particularly around quality assurance activities such as defect management, testing, and documentation, which helps me improve continuously.
There is also good support for my academic development, with time allocated to study and encouragement to align my learning with my project responsibilities. Managers are approachable and ensure workloads are balanced so I can manage both work and study effectively.
Overall, the support I receive enables me to develop confidently, build new skills, and contribute meaningfully to client work while progressing through my degree.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
Tutors are accessible and provide guidance when needed, whether that’s explaining technical concepts, supporting assignments, or helping to apply theory to real workplace scenarios. There is also regular feedback on coursework, which helps me understand areas for improvement and stay on track academically.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
Topics such as software development principles, system design, and problem-solving approaches strengthen my technical understanding and help me contribute more effectively to Agile delivery work, including defect management, testing, and release validation. This has improved the quality and confidence of my output on live projects.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
There are also professional networks and communities of practice that I can get involved in, covering areas such as technology, cloud, cybersecurity, and early careers development. These sessions often include knowledge sharing, guest speakers, and workshops, which support both technical and professional growth.
In addition, there are volunteering and corporate social responsibility initiatives, as well as informal social activities and team events that encourage collaboration outside of project work.
Overall, these opportunities help me broaden my network, develop soft skills, and gain exposure to different areas of the business beyond my day-to-day role.
