Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently working as a Construction Apprentice Site Supervisor while completing my Level 4 Construction Management apprenticeship. My role involves supporting the site management team in the day-to-day running of construction projects. This includes monitoring site activities, ensuring health and safety standards are followed, coordinating with subcontractors, and helping to keep work on schedule.
On a daily basis, I assist with site inspections, communicate with workers and supervisors, and help resolve any issues that arise on site. I am also developing my understanding of construction processes, planning, and project management through both practical experience and my coursework. This role has helped me build confidence, organisation skills, and knowledge of how a construction site operates.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my apprenticeship as it gives me the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised qualification. Being on site allows me to learn directly from experienced professionals and understand how construction projects are managed in real life.
I particularly enjoy the variety of work and the responsibility I am starting to take on. While balancing work and study can sometimes be challenging, it has helped me develop time management and discipline. Overall, I find the programme rewarding and beneficial for my future career in construction management.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my apprenticeship, I have developed a range of new skills and strengthened existing ones. I have improved my understanding of construction processes, site coordination, and health and safety regulations. Being on site has helped me build practical skills such as conducting site inspections, monitoring progress, and communicating effectively with subcontractors and team members.
I have also developed key soft skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, and time management, especially when balancing work responsibilities with my coursework. Additionally, my confidence has grown as I have taken on more responsibility and become more involved in day-to-day site operations. Overall, I feel I am progressing well and building a solid foundation for a career in construction management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and structured, with a clear format that makes it easy to follow alongside my work on site. It is delivered online, with around 12 hours of study per week, which allows me to balance my apprenticeship responsibilities with my learning.
The programme provided through the Chartered Institute of Building is set out in a logical way, with modules that build on each other and support my development in construction management. The flexibility of online learning is helpful, and I am able to complete work at a pace that fits around my schedule.
Support is available when needed, and overall the structure helps me stay organised and focused on progressing through the course.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship. The site team are approachable and willing to share their knowledge, which helps me understand tasks and develop my skills on site. I am given opportunities to take on responsibility while still being supported when needed. My employer also allows me time to complete my coursework, which helps me balance both work and study effectively.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider, the Chartered Institute of Building. The course materials are clear and well-structured, and guidance is available when needed. The online format allows flexibility, and I can access resources easily. Support is there if I have questions, which helps me stay on track with my learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification supports my role by giving me a better understanding of construction management principles, health and safety, and site processes. What I learn through the programme can be applied directly on site, which helps improve my confidence and decision-making. It has made me more aware of how projects are planned and managed, which benefits my day-to-day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are some opportunities to get involved in activities outside of day-to-day work, such as team events and occasional social gatherings. While these are not very frequent, they do provide a good chance to build relationships with colleagues and feel part of the team.
