Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Assisting the Senior QS and project management team from a commercial standpoint. Responsible for administering contracts, paying subcontractors and monitoring the financial performance of a project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The role is a good challenge which can come with its stresses hence it is not perfect, but all in all I enjoy my day to day activities and get on with all my colleagues.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Being completely new to the construction industry, everything I learned was basically brand new, and all of it is relevant. QS'ing is basically having to be a jack of all trades so every day is a school day

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Monthly catchup meetings, time is allowed outside of university to dedicate to study if required too. Early careers team is very hands on and helpful with any queries whether that be with the course or general issues.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The Uni is very good, my mentor is also hands on and allows opportunity to speak if there are any concerns
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Sometimes the Uni work falls behind my actual knowledge due to the amount of practical experience gained on site, but that simply acts as a supplement so it is never irrelevant and always advances my performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in charity work, golf days, occasional charity football games and work social events every Christmas at least.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tilbury Douglas to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A very inclusive place to work and people who haven't had construction industry experience shouldn't shy away from TD as a place to start their journey.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tilbury Douglas?
Just be yourself, they want to know who you are as an apprentice and how you can fit in to the team. If you can demonstrate you have the potential to absorb new knowledge and work collaboratively, it will stand you in good stead.
