Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role as an Associate Environment Manager, I support the coordination and management of test and production environments to ensure they are available, correctly configured, and aligned with project and release timelines. On a day-to-day basis, this involves managing environment bookings, resolving scheduling conflicts, and working closely with delivery and service teams to maintain smooth deployment activity.
I assist with release coordination activities, including maintaining reporting documents, supporting environment status updates, and ensuring documentation such as runbooks and change records are accurate and audit-ready. I also contribute to maintaining key reporting tools, where I review and quality-assure data outputs, refine Excel formulas, and support automation improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual errors.
A key part of my role is cross-team communication, ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed of environment availability, potential clashes, and upcoming activity. Overall, my work helps ensure deployments are well-coordinated, compliant, and delivered with minimal disruption.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, particularly the apprenticeship side with MMU. The academic element complements my role well, and I’ve found the deep dives into relevant units especially valuable. Modules that explore areas such as software development, systems design, data, and emerging technologies have helped me better understand the theory behind what I see in practice. The balance between academic learning and workplace experience has helped me build both technical understanding and professional confidence

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Over the past period, I’ve developed both new and existing skills through my role and the academic side of my apprenticeship. Technically, I’ve strengthened my understanding of environment coordination, release scheduling, and reporting processes. I’ve gained more confidence working with structured reporting tools, refining Excel formulas, and supporting VBA automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual error.
I’ve also developed stronger stakeholder communication skills, particularly when coordinating across multiple teams to align environment bookings and resolve scheduling conflicts. Supporting reporting processes such as environment status updates has improved my attention to detail and data accuracy.
On the academic side with MMU, the deeper exploration of software development, systems thinking, and data-related modules has enhanced my analytical skills and ability to connect theory with real-world practice. I feel I’ve grown both technically and professionally, particularly in organisation, communication, and problem-solving

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I find the programme to be well organised and clearly structured, both from the workplace and university perspective. There is a clear roadmap outlining expectations, modules, and key milestones, which makes it easier to plan and manage my workload effectively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Personal Development Plans (PDPs) provide a structured way to set goals and track my progress, ensuring I am continuously developing both technical and professional skills. In addition, half-yearly and annual reviews give me the opportunity to reflect on performance, receive constructive feedback, and realign my objectives where needed.
I also receive continuous support from my managers, who provide guidance, regular check-ins, and opportunities to take on new responsibilities
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from MMU while working towards my qualifications. The study support available is very helpful, particularly when preparing for assignments or assessments. Tutors are approachable and responsive, and they take the time to explain concepts in depth, especially when covering more complex technical topics.
In addition, the Skills Coaches provide consistent guidance and are very willing and available to help whenever needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The modules encourage analytical thinking and structured problem-solving, which supports my day-to-day responsibilities, particularly when reviewing reporting processes, coordinating environments, and ensuring documentation meets quality and compliance standards. The deeper theoretical knowledge allows me to understand not just what I am doing, but why it is done in a particular way, which improves the quality of my work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are regular CGI SSC events as well as in-office events are held frequently,
