Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Having started my apprenticeship with very little prior knowledge on constriction I have learnt an awful lot for the 8 months I have been an apprentice. Some of what I have learnt is as follows:
- Health and safety
- NHBC key stage inspections
- Organising and managing teams
- Organising delivery of materials/ call offs
- Liaising with other departments such as commercial
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme is going very well so far, I have learnt a lot to say I had very little knowledge of construction prior to starting my apprenticeship.
My online lessons with NHBC who are the training provider suit well with the day to day learning that I have on site.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt skills that are key for my role but also help me outside of work. Some are as follows:
- Organising work
- Writing emails that are straight forward and professional
- Knowing how to approach people in a non confrontational manner
- Communication

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme goes hand in hand with the online lessons that I have with NHBC. I have found it to be structured well with my learning on site. Especially when it comes to the technical aspects of site.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have reviews with my employer which allows me to address any concerns in person. The contracts manager visits site often and checks up on how I am getting on with my work. As well as this any issues I address are sorted.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have contact with my tutors who provide support if I require it. As well as this I have a review every 8-12 weeks which allows me reflect on what I have completed and if I require any help with assignments etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Because my role involves quite a lot of technical knowledge my online lessons have been very helpful as the content in them focuses on the technical knowledge as well as key aspects of the topic. E.g. I build to NHBC standards on site, initially I was daunted by the volume of the standards but as key elements have been covered in the online lessons I am a lot more comfortable with how to apply the standards on site to ensure the build adheres.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Vistry often host sessions that are accessible to myself and other colleagues. The most recent one was held in salford which included staff from all departments. As well as this the future talent team organises events for the trainees and graduates which allows us to share our experiences, network and talk to past trainees who have progressed.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vistry to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Vistry have been great, from the application process through to being hired I have had very little issues. Where I have had issues I've always had a point of call to address these issues.
As well as this I work with a supportive team who are more than happy to answer and questions I have and test my knowledge often.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vistry?
A key element of what Vistry focuses on is their values, it's a good idea to have real life examples of where you have applied these values and how you would apply them to your job role. As well as this be confident and don't be afraid to ask any questions.
