Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Design & Technical Trainee at Vistry, I support the design and technical teams in delivering housing developments. My daily work includes reviewing drawings, checking technical details, coordinating information with consultants and site teams, and helping ensure designs meet regulations and company standards. I assist with updating documents, solving design queries, and learning how projects move from planning through to construction.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme because it combines hands‑on learning with real project experience. I like being involved in live design and technical work while also developing my skills through structured training. The programme is supportive, varied, and helps me see clear progress in my knowledge and confidence. Overall, I find the apprenticeship rewarding, engaging, and a great start to my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes — I’ve learnt new skills and developed existing ones throughout my apprenticeship. I’ve improved my understanding of design and technical processes, become more confident reviewing drawings and using industry software, and strengthened my communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills through real project experience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My apprenticeship programme is well organised and structured, with a clear balance between on‑the‑job learning and formal training. I have regular support from my team, clear goals to work towards, and a good understanding of what is expected at each stage. The programme provides steady progression, helpful guidance, and opportunities to gain experience across different areas, which makes it feel structured and easy to follow.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive an immense amount of support from my employer. My team is always available to guide me, answer questions, and help me develop both technically and professionally. I’m encouraged to ask for help when needed, and there is a strong focus on my growth and confidence. The level of support has made a big difference in my learning experience and overall progress within the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. They offer guidance when needed, provide clear expectations for each module, and check in regularly to make sure I’m progressing well. The feedback and resources they provide help me stay on track and understand what I need to achieve.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification supports my role well by giving me the theoretical understanding behind my day‑to‑day work. It helps me understand technical standards, design principles, and industry regulations, which makes it easier to apply them in practice. It also develops useful skills that directly improve how I work and contribute to my team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are loads of extra‑curricular activities to get involved in at work. This includes social events, team activities, charity days, volunteering opportunities, and wider networking events within the company. There are plenty of chances to meet new people, build connections, and get involved outside of day‑to‑day work.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vistry to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Vistry to a friend because it’s a supportive and positive place to work. There are great learning opportunities, a friendly team environment, and plenty of chances to get involved in different projects. The company invests in your development, offers strong support, and provides a good balance of training and real experience. Overall, it’s a welcoming environment where you can grow both personally and professionally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vistry?
My advice for anyone applying to Vistry is to show genuine interest in the construction and housing industry and be ready to learn. Highlight any practical experience or transferable skills, even if they’re small. Be open‑minded, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to show enthusiasm for the role. Vistry values people who are proactive, willing to get involved, and keen to develop their skills, so showing a positive attitude and eagerness to grow will really help you stand out.
