Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a site engineer I am primarily on site using surveying equipment like total stations and GPS. I am also involved in the planning, health and safety of the site, and the quality of the structures that I am involved in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The experience and reasonability I have gained from working with Balfour Beatty at an Apprentice has surprised me a great deal. I am currently working with the structures team and have helped deliver 4 bridges on the HS2 project.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
When I first started my job I had hardly been on site or had much experience working in the construction industry. Since working here I have been able to meet new people with different skills and learn a great deal from them. I honestly can't believe how far I have come in my career since joining Balfour Beatty.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is fairly organised I attend university one day a week and then working on site four days a week. Sometimes it can be a struggle to balance the two especially when I have a lot of university assignments and work is busy with construction, but I have received a great deal of support to help balance the two.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
From my immediate team I have received a great deal of support from learning my job role, my chartership with the ICE, and my degree with my university.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
From my immediate team I have received a great deal of support from learning my job role, my chartership with the ICE, and my degree with my university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My university have been supportive - they are aware that I also have a full time job and I am able to approach them if I need any additional support.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My team are very social - as a lot of my team members work away from home we often go out after work.

Yes
Why?
The support, experience and exposure while being on the project is amazing. I would recommend doing an apprenticeship with Balfour Beatty to anyone!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
As i am doing an apprenticeship the advice I would give to someone who is going to do the same would be to keep on top of exams and assignments.
