Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship scheme at Visa is rotational, consisting on 5x 6 month rotations and a final 18 month placement. I am currently 7 months into the role and in my second rotation. My first rotation was in Client Services which is mandatory for all apprentices, I worked on case management, handling mid-complex B2B client questions surrounding Visa's products and services. As part of my second rotation, I sit within a UK&I Client Engagement team where I support in looking after the relationship between a UK issuer and Visa. I look for new ways to help the issuer grow, engage their consumers and solve problems.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying the programme, the company is flexible and there are lots of opportunities available for apprentices. I'm most fond of the rotational nature of the scheme as it allows me to gain commercial awareness on the payments industry and the role Visa plays as a card network.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Key skills I have gained so far is my analytical skills through the use of excel, customer service and patience when working closely with clients, team work and confidence in communicating when collaborating with teams across Visa. Most importantly, I have built on my time management skills when managing my full time role and university work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship programme is well structured. I work full time 4 days a week, and my dedicated study day is on Friday. Visa is flexible, so you are able to choose your own study days ideally on a Monday or Friday. My rotations are well structured too, you find out your rotations at least 2 weeks before it starts. In terms of my current rotation, all of my projects were laid out before I even joined giving me a peace of mind. Day to day work is depicted by your OKRs which stands for Objectives and Key Results, this is discussed at the start of each rotation.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support. We have an apprentice program manager and line managers for each rotation. I have weekly 121s with my line manager, but I'm able to reach out to them at any time if I need support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Corndel is extremely supportive and the apprenticeship learning is well structured. I have monthly 121's with my PDE, but whenever I reach out to them, they're always available and quick to respond. Quarterly, I also have progress reviews with both my PDE and rotation manager to talk through my learning and day to day work which is helpful as it ensures my day to day work is aligned to my degree. I also receive feedback weekly from my PDE on my university work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification is well aligned to my day to day role. I am studying towards a BSc (Hons) in Applied Business Management. My first module was on Leadership & Management and my current module is on Using and Presenting Business Information. Ask a result I have built on many skills, most importantly, resilience and my Excel skills. Rotation managers are also helpful in ensuring the day to day work aligns to the degree work. I have had no issues so far!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Plenty! Within the 6 month rotations, each teams typically plan their own socials so there's always something on. In regards to the overall apprenticeship, the early careers team is amazing when it comes to planning socials, typically every 2 months with both graduates and apprentices from all years. We have done Darts and Toca Social which was fun. There's a range of ERG's (Employee Resource Groups) at Visa, there is something for everyone and they also have frequent events. Visa also has a Football team and a Running Club. Within your apprentice cohort, you can also plan your own socials.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Visa to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a great place to be and there's something for everyone. The people here are friendly too no matter the employee level. I learn something new everyday.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Visa?
Research the company well, Visa is not a bank but rather a digital payments technology company. Visa bridges the gap between finance and technology through VisaNet. Research the four party model and how Visa makes money, so you can gain some commercial awareness before you join. Visa has four leadership principles: Lead Courageously, Obsess about Customers, Collaborate as one Visa and Execute with Excellence, it is the foundation of everything they do. Most importantly, be yourself and let your personality and passion shine through.
